The lush golf courses at the Grupo Mayan resorts are visited year round by golfers from all over the world. No matter what your level of expertise the Grupo Mayan courses will accommodate you. Many locations offer onsite golf academies and all resorts have golf pros available for your benefit. While preparing for your holiday, Grupo Mayan would like to offer you the following tips on improving your golf swing.

  • Be positive. Being negative will not only affect your golf game, it will keep you and your fellow players from enjoying your time on the course.
  • Be committed. Commit yourself to practice as much as possible. All Grupo Mayan resorts offer putting greens and driving ranges for extra practice while on holiday.
  • Be flexible. Practice in different conditions and for different hazards. The more situations you prepare yourself for the better prepared you will be when facing them. Grupo Mayan golf courses have a variety of traps and hazards including sand traps, lakes, undergrowth, and jungle growth.
  • Check the pro shop for swing aids. Weights and other devices are available to help improve your swing. All of our resorts have pro shops on site where you can find a large assortment of golf accessories.
  • Book a few lessons with a local pro. This will give you some practice time and help get you in shape before your holiday. The pro will look at your swing and give you advice on how to improve it.
  • Read some books on golf. There are many books and videos on golf available. The internet is also a great place to find tips. Try out some of the practice tips you get from the books you read.
  • After you have read a few golf books and watched a few videos you can try out several different tips for a week. If these do not seem to work for you, try different ones until you find pointers that improve your swing.
  • Use the “hitchhiker” thumb position with your backswing. You will need to glance back at your thumb to ensure that it is pointed up in the “hitchhiker” position.
  • Make sure your weight is positioned correctly for your swing. A good pro will be able to look at your stance and let you know how to improve it and where your weight needs to be distributed. Many golfers are surprised to find that their stance has been incorrect for years!.
  •  Book some time with a Grupo Mayan pro. You can book time with one of our pros before you arrive. The Grupo Maya website offers contact numbers for all of our golfing facilities. (Our website offers information on all of our golf amenities at each site, including online tee time booking).

All golfers know that better swings will improve your game. Once you have the right stance and feel comfortable with your clubs all you will need is practice.

Planning a successful golf vacation can be a hassle. You have to research resorts, levels of play offered on different courses, and even find activities for the non- golfers in your group. Add to these annoyances the fact that when you arrive things will probably not go as planned and most of us feel it is not worth the effort and give up before any reservations are made.

The Grupo Mayan, with golf resorts throughout Mexico, can ease all the problems and worries associated with planning a golf vacation and help you arrange the perfect holiday. The staff at each Grupo Mayan resort property will assist you with all of your planning needs.

When organizing your golf vacation, staff members will arrange tee times and classes with the onsite pro or sessions at a Nicklaus Golf Academy. You do not have to worry about players of different abilities in your group finding a course too difficult or easy. Grupo Mayan golf courses are accessible and challenging for all levels of play. All courses include a driving range and putting greens for guests to sharpen their skills and a pro shop for those must have souvenir balls and tees.

Are you traveling with children? Grupo Mayan resorts have an excellent Kid’s Club program at each site. Children will participate in sports and other outdoor activities like swimming and tennis. They will have time to visit local attractions and learn the history and culture of the area. Handicrafts are also fun part of the program.

One of the greatest things about a Grupo Mayan vacation is all the wonderful features the resorts offer the non-golfing guests in your group. Each golf resort has a spa experience which pampers and relaxes with massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, body scrubs, and more. Resorts are located near tourist attractions and local shopping districts. In Acapulco you can make plans to see the world famous Cliff Divers of La Quebrada and the Riviera Maya offers trips to many ancient Mayan temples and ruins. Many more attractions are just a short jaunt from each resort and the Grupo Mayan staff will help you arrange all tours and shopping excursions.

Golfers and non-golfers alike can meet up for delicious dinners and exciting nightlife. Each Grupo Mayan resort has several restaurants on site offering you a choice of gourmet dining. All properties also have bars and nightclubs located within the facility. Evening entertainment ranges from beach bars to hot and trendy nightclubs where you can dance the night away. Several resorts offer traditional Mexican entertainment in addition to the bars and nightclubs.

Energizing, once-in-a-lifetime, relaxing, lush, and unique are all words our guests have used to describe their visit to a Grupo Mayan resort property. Many guests return for a second or third vacation after realizing how easy it is to plan the perfect golf vacation with our staff and all the amenities available for the golfer and non-golfer alike.

Grupo Mayan Travel Tips for Golfers.

Posted by bhert on October 29th, 2008 under golf Tags: ,  •  No Comments

Golfers from all over the world arrive in Mexico to play at one of Grupo Mayan Resort’s world class golf courses. Travel with golf clubs offers many unique challenges. Grupo Mayan offers guests the following tips as they plan for their vacation.

  •  Preparing golf clubs for transit. Airplane transit can be damaging to clubs. The most important step you can take to protect the investment you have made in your clubs is to purchase a travel bag. Travel bags are available in both hard and soft styles. Hard travel bags offer your clubs the most protection as they are similar to an inflexible suitcase. The majority of golf pros use hard bags for their clubs when traveling. Soft sided bags, while less expensive, will not shield your clubs from damage. The Grupo Mayan suggests all golf travelers pack their clubs in a hard sided travel bag.
  • Pack with care. Clubs must be packed properly. Do not throw your clubs into the travel bag or leave them loose. You will want to pack your clubs in your golf bag and then place them in the travel bag. Some golf bags have head covers and these should be placed on the bag for travel. If your bag does not have a head cover you should wrap your clubs in golf towels or rain gear; any cloth items you are packing will work to protect the clubs. You may also use the extra space in the travel bag to pack shoes, hats, and other golf accessories.
  • Check your clubs at the airport. While you will not want to lug your heavy travel bag through airports, airlines also have size restrictions for carryon baggage. Carrying your clubs on the plane could also pose a safety hazard. If you have taken the precaution of purchasing a travel bag your clubs should make the journey to your Grupo Mayan destination safely.
  • Be prepared. No one wants to lose their luggage while traveling but the reality is that on occasion bags are lost or misplaced. We suggest you insure your clubs under your homeowner’s policy in the event of loss or damage. If any problems arise in transit, the staff of your Grupo Mayan resort will help you resolve them in any way they can.
  • All Grupo Mayan golf resorts offer guests the unique option of reserving tee times before your arrival. You can visit the Grupo Mayan web site from home to schedule tee times that fit in with your vacation schedule. The website will also give you information about the course such as the number of holes and difficulty levels. Driving range, putting green, pro shop, and golf academy details are just a mouse click away.

Grupo Mayan wants your golfing vacation to be one you will always remember. We hope the above tips will help you to prepare and travel with your golf clubs. Please contact your Grupo Mayan resort if we can be of further service.

Grupo Mayan resorts are a Great Place for Beginning Golfers

Posted by bhert on October 26th, 2008 under Grupo Mayan, Tips Tags: , ,  •  No Comments

Beginning golfers will find Grupo Mayan resorts to be the perfect holiday. Each resort offers beginning golfers professional instruction with a golf pro and many of our sites have a Nicklaus Golf Academy. We offer the following tips to our guests who are just beginning the game of golf.

Beginners will need instruction in swinging the golf club. Many players feel it is a true art form to swing correctly. That being said, it is not hard to develop a great swing. All you will need is proper instruction and practice.

The beginning golfer might wish to sign up for golfing classes. Local city courses and country clubs will offer beginning golf classes and swing instruction. Many local universities and community centers also have golf classes. You may possibly even find ads in the paper for lessons.

As a beginner it is important to realize that golf is not all physical. The game of golf has a mental aspect as well. Golfers need to be positive and committed to the game. A negative attitude will bring your game down, while a positive attitude and a commitment to practice will improve your play. Good golfers are confident and focused. If you let your mind wander during play you could injure yourself or someone else.

Beginning golfers will want to familiarize themselves with the rules of the game. There are many books and videos available that explain the game. The Grupo Mayan golf resorts follow standard golf rules and ask that all golfers familiarize themselves with proper game play. Golfers are encouraged to be courteous and respectful of each other and the facilities.

Beginning golfers will find Grupo Mayan resorts to be the perfect spot to work on improving their game. Our courses are designed for all levels of play, from beginner to expert. Each course has a driving range and putting green available for practice when you are not on the course.

Grupo Mayan pros are also available to help you with your game. Our pros will be able to help you improve your stance and your swing while you are with us on vacation. You may contact the resort you will be visiting to schedule time with one of the Grupa Mayan pros. Several of our golf resorts also offer instruction through the Nicklaus Golf Academy. This academy offers classes for all levels of play and the instruction you receive here will be exceptional.

Be prepared for a memorable golfing vacation at the Grupo Mayan resorts. Our many world class golf courses are challenging for all golfers. You will face hazards from sand traps to jungle undergrowth, you will drive golf balls down lush fairways, and you will have the golfing adventure of a lifetime!

Grupo Mayan Offers the World’s Finest Golf Courses

Posted by bhert on October 25th, 2008 under Grupo Mayan, golf, news Tags: , ,  •  No Comments

Each Grupo Mayan golf resort offers guests the finest possible golfing experience.   Excellent courses and luxurious resorts will make your visit one to remember.  Here are a few tips for golfers visiting our resorts.

  • So that all Grupo Mayan guests can enjoy their time on the golf course, players are asked to show consideration for other golfers and abide by all posted rules. Courtesy and good sportsmanship are considered the heart of a good golf game.
  • Players are asked to consider the safety of themselves and others.  Make sure no one is standing near when you make a practice swing.  Do not advance your play until you are assured the players in front of you have proceeded forward.  Also, please remember to shout “fore” when hitting a ball that might cause someone danger.
  • Do not distract or disturb other players.  Unnecessary movements and sounds can cause problems for other guests.  Do not approach the tee until it is your turn and do not stand close to other golfers as they prepare to hit.  Grupo Mayan asks that all golfers turn electronic devices to vibrate to avoid ringing and buzzing sounds.
  • Keep a good speed of play on the course.  If your group is slowing down another group it is appropriate to let them pass.  Also be ready to play.  When it is your turn you should be prepared with your club.  After you have finished a hole, quickly leave the green so others may play.
  • All Grupo Mayan golf courses have sand traps and water features.  If your ball becomes lost or is hit too far off the course you can play a temporary ball.  If your ball becomes lost it is considerate to allow the next group to play through so they will not be delayed.
  • Golfers can help care for the course by filling in divots and other holes made by their shoes or their ball’s impact.  Try and avoid causing large divots when taking practice swings.
  • When finishing a hole please use your hands to remove balls from the hole.  Using a club to remove the ball will damage the course and your club.  Also take care removing and replacing the flag.
  • Please follow proper etiquette when driving a golf cart.  Stay on marked trails and drive at a safe pace. Do not overload your cart as it may tip.  You will also want to ensure that your golf bag is securely attached to the rear of the cart so you do not lose your clubs.

You will find that your golfing experience at a Grupo Mayan resort is unsurpassable.  Golf Pros are available at each site to give tips on how to improve your game and many of our resorts offer golf classes at an onsite Jack Nicklaus Golf Academy.  Please check the Grupa Mayan website for specific information on the course(s) you will be playing.

Golf Tips for a Great Grupo Mayan Golf Trip

Posted by bhert on October 23rd, 2008 under Grupo Mayan, Tips, golf Tags: ,  •  No Comments

The Grupa Mayan resorts of Mexico offer golfers from all over the world the vacation of a lifetime.  Whether you are new to the game or a seasoned pro you will find courses and difficulty levels to match your needs.  Here are some tips on golf for the beginning golfer, (and the expert who needs a reminder or two), from the Grupo Mayan.

  • Don’t spend a long time pondering your shot.  Have confidence and swing.  If you think about the shot too much you will most likely miss the ball!
  • Don’t forget the follow through on your swing.  Most new golfers are so concerned about the front end of their swing they don’t even follow through.  Look back and make sure your hand is in the “hitchhiker” position, with thumb up, on your follow through.
  • Get in golf shape.  You do not have to train for a muscle man competition to be physically fit for golf.  Exercises that strengthen your arms and back will help improve your swing and backswing.  You will be amazed at the improvement in your swing after a few weeks of exercise.
  • It is important to also exercise your trunk and leg muscles. These muscles are used during your swing and as you shift weight from foot to foot in your stance.  Squats are a great way to build leg muscles. All Grupo Mayan resorts have fitness facilities for working out while on vacation.
  • As you practice in anticipation of your vacation set daily goals.  Make plans to concentrate on one area of your game at a time.  You made need to work on your swing, your stance, speed, balance, or all of these and more.  Even seasoned golfers need constant practice in all areas of the game.
  • Practice golfing through different kinds of hazards.  Grupo Mayan golf courses offer many types of hazards from white sand to jungle undergrowth.  You will want to learn techniques for avoiding these traps.
  • Do not rely on golf aids.  Golf aids exist for every aspect of the game.  They are available to correct your stance, improve your swing, and just about everything else.  Professionals suggests that beginners perfect their game naturally before trying aids.  When you do try any golf aid make sure to read several reviews of the product to see what others think of its usefulness.   Use only one aid at a time.

All golfers are concerned with inconsistencies in their game.  They worry about their swing and their slice.  The Grupa Mayan resorts offer guests the opportunity to learn from an on site pro or attend sessions at a Nicklaus Golf Academy.  No matter what your level of ability you will benefit from the professional instruction available.  You will pick up new tricks and tips that will improve your game.
The professional Grupo Mayan staff will assist you in arranging the perfect golf vacation at one of our luxurious resorts.  Everything, including tee times and classes, can be planned before your arrival leaving you free to begin your vacation upon arrival.
